Harrods opened in Knightsbridge in 1849. Its founder, Charles Henry Harrod, had a grocery shop
in the East End of London, but set up here to catch the trade from the Great Exhibition that was
happening in nearby Hyde park. His well run business was a great success and, with the help of
his son, it steadily grew to become the largest store in the country. Harrods has 330 departments,
and you can famously buy anything here. Its motto is 'All things for all people, everywhere.'
