Liberty opened in Regent Street in 1875.
Its founder, Arthur Liberty, was a man of great culture and taste. He originally staged the shop as a kind of Eastern bazaar. As there was a fascination with The Orient in Victorian times, it quickly became the most fashionable store in London. By working with innovative British jewellery and textile designers, Liberty helped to create the iconic Art Nouveau style. The beautiful Tudor revival building dates back to the 1920's. With its creaking staircases, exotic perfumes and silk scarves, Liberty is a sumptuous feast for all of the senses...
